Noon Reveals Plans To Launch A Food Delivery App Tending To Vendors Instead Of Customers Amid COVID-19 Crisis

Holyy loch ness, another food delivery platform?? Like we don’t already have ample to choose from, but well it’s noon at the end of the day… and if we know one thing about this local e-commerce platform is that it doesn’t just stand, it stands OUT!

With the announcement of noon’s new food delivery service launching in the coming months, it’s also been made clear that this addition to the food app club will be catering to vendors rather than to customers.

The Founder and Chairman of Emaar Properties and noon, Mohamed Alabbar put forward the company’s aims, missions plus statements regarding Dubai’s F&B industry that really needed to be addressed during a webinar that took place on Sunday, July 26.

“When the virus hit, our F&B industry had little choice but to turn to aggregators who were charging up to 35% commission structures.”

In their aim to support local food businesses in the region amid the raging global COVID-19 crisis, Alabbar continued to say,

“We will no longer be held ransom by aggregators – our people deserve better,”

“There is no denying the impact of the Coronavirus crisis of 2020. This year has been a challenge on all fronts. Small and local businesses that have been built over decades with love have been badly impacted.

We have been held ransom by food aggregator platforms. And that’s not acceptable. Our F&B industry is a part of the beating heart of this economy, and it has been severely impacted. We must do all we can to support and protect it. This is out of love for our businesses, families, nation and economy. We must think beyond profit.”

With the region’s F&B industry facing a serious blow during the pandemic, major food delivery firms had refused to reduce commission rates – leaving vendors with little to almost nothing to survive on

Keeping this frustration in mind, Alabbar promised that the noon food delivery service will charge fair commission and will also offer attractive incentives for businesses who choose to onboard with them.

It’ll be a restaurant-first platform, dedicated to giving local businesses the chance to thrive beyond these times thanks to a simple and equitable program to help even the playing field for F&B deliveries.
