Pakistani Taxi Driver In A Coma Is Flown Home Thanks To The Kindness Of Good Samaritans

Mohammad Ilyas, a Pakistani man who was working in Dubai as a taxi driver, had previously worked in Dubai for seven years, had returned home and then came back to Dubai to work again in the last eight months.

Gulf News first reported that the 33 year old had fallen into a coma in April following a sudden cardiac arrest.

Ilyas is the main source of income for his mother and four siblings

His father passed away and since then Ilyas has been working to provide for his family in Pakistan.

Two months ago he suffered a cardiac arrest and as a result sustained brain damage and fell into a coma. He has been in a vegetative state since the accident.

Now,thanks to the kindness of strangers, he has been flown home

People came forward after hearing about his case and offered to pay the mounting hospital bills and the costs of sending Ilyas home.

Over AED 95,000 was collected to help Ilyas and his family as they were not in a position to pay the bills or repatriation costs.

He was flown to Islamabad on June 23 with a nurse and his uncle and he will continue to receive treatment at Islamabad’s Brain Surgery Hospital, all thanks to the generosity displayed by strangers.

Rizwan Fancy, senior executive member of Pakistani Association Dubai’s welfare committee, said “This is a great gesture by the people who contributed to this noble cause. Ilyas had been lying in the hospital for more than two months and since he was the only breadwinner of his big family, there was no way his family could pay the bill that was piling up. I want to thank everyone, especially the Pakistan Consulate General in Dubai, for making this possible.”
