FInally! 33 Scammers Held By Dubai Police Over Bogus Competition Texts

Have you been on the receiving end of bogus competitions, claiming you’re the winner of a huge cash prize?

Well you’re not the only one.

Many text message scams have been doing the rounds in the last number of months, and now two gangs have been arrested.

Two gangs with predominately Asian members operating out of Dubai and Ajman were apprehended by UAE police.

The fraud?

Sending messages to residents saying they had won big money. To claim the ‘prize’, winners would have to transfer cash to the gangs.

Suspicious activity in a Deira flat lead to the arrests…

14 perople were arrested, and 90 phones and 70 SIM cards were seized in the first raid. This also led Police to a similar operation taking place in Ajman.

19 arrests were made in this raid.

Between January and May 31, Dubai police recorded 12 similar telecommunications fraud cases, with an astonishing AED780,000 embezzled from residents, according to Khaleej Times.
