Police Have Issued A Stark Warning About Social Media Scams

UAE residents are being warned about fraudulent messages circulating on social media, posing as reputable brands. 

The Abu Dhabi Police issued a statement on the matter, outlining instances where fraudsters have imitated trademarks and trusted websites, in a bid to steal personal information – including usernames, passwords, credit card details and other information. 

Police are urging residents to report crimes to the police, to track and catch criminals. 

The UAE Cyber Crime Law penalties see maximum punishments of one-three years imprisonment and fines of up to AED1 million. 

Previously, a scammer posed as Etisalat in a bid to obtain personal information.
