Last month Hazza Al Mansouri and Sultan Al Niyadi were announced as the UAE’s first astronauts.

The men are currently undergoing rigorous training in Russia, after which one of the men will be selected to join a Russian space mission, a huge source of pride for the country.

HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum Crown Prince of Dubai congratulated the two men on their achievements. Fazza also praised the UAE’s progress as it continues to establish a footprint in the space industry.

One of the men will be selected to join a Russian space mission

The two astronauts are undergoing specially-designed intensive training at a Cosmonaut Training Centre in Russia and one will be selected to join an 11-day Russian space mission to the International Space Station (ISS) in April, 2019, according to the Dubai Media Office.
