Sheikh Mohammed Has Announced Plans For The First Settlement On Mars
Dubai is looking to establish the first inhabitable human settlement on Mars.
The project, ‘Mars 2117’ was announced on Tuesday by Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
The UAE is among the top 9 countries in the world who contribute to space science, and the first phase will be focus on recruiting scientists able to achieve scientific breakthrough – ‘to facilitate the arrival of human to the Red Planet in the next decades’.
“The Mars 2117 Project is a long term project, where our first objective is to develop our educational system so our sons will be able to lead scientific research across the various sectors.”

The project will include providing a livable settlement for humans, as well as faster transportation to and from Mars, as well as the provision of necessities such as food and water.
