Yesterday, several reports announced how a handful of Dubai residents had already purchased tickets for flights to space via Virgin Galactic, the world’s first commercial airline for space.
The airline’s stand at the Dubai Airshow caught intrigue, and so did the price point for these tourist flights to space- expected to take place next year. Virgin Galactic, founded by Sir Richard Branson, is already prepping for its first set of commercial flights into space for the first time.
How much does it cost to travel to space?
Aleanna Crane, head of communications at Virgin Galactic confirmed that the 90-minute flight into space will cost $250,000 or AED 918, 125- per person. Yes, we know what you’re thinking.
But also, it’s space- and this would be one of the most historic things to ever take place, imagine getting a chance to experience a few minutes of weightlessness. Amazing!
Over 600 customers have signed up for these flights- from 60 different countries
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, was present during the unveiling of the event and signed the prototype for the spacesuits to be worn on the flights on Sunday. The Under Armour suit will include loads of safety features, as well as buttons to allow communications onboard the flight, space boots, a mission patch and space on the suit for your country’s flag.
We wonder who’ll represent the UAE once this flight takes off.
Only time will tell.
