Abu Dhabi Will Host The Special Olympics In 2019 And It’s Going To Be Brilliant

More than 7,000 athletes from 170 countries will be coming to Abu Dhabi for the first time for the Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019, it has been announced.

The logo for the games was unveiled on Friday night.  

The Special Olympics is host to athletes with intellectual disabilities, in a bid to create a spirit of inclusion and unity between all members of society.  

UAE residents will be able watch the athletes compete in football, swimming, cycling, athletics, equestrian, gymnastics, basketball, cycling, figure skating, football, golf and powerlifting to name a few, as some of the sports featuring at the competition for two weeks.  

The logo for the games is inspired by the Emirati tradition of palm frond weaving (Khoos)

And for those interested to watch the Abu Dhabi segment of the closing ceremony from the Special Olympics Winter Games that came to a conclusion in Graz, Austria last Friday, it will be broadcasted throughout the Mother of the Nation Festival at Abu Dhabi Corniche from March 26–April 4 at 6.15pm, daily.
