Syria’s World Cup Dreams Were Shattered In A Nail-Biting Qualifier Against Australia
Syrian hearts broke this afternoon after the team lost to Australia in a nail-biting World Cup Qualifier.
It was 2-1 to the Aussie team and 3-2 on aggregate, and the whole thing was more tense than we’re able to cope with on a Tuesday afternoon.
For a second we actually thought Syria could do it and watching the game play out on Twitter was nearly as good as watching the game itself. Here’s what went down:
A beautiful goal gave Syria a fighting chance
Work stopped to watch the game

Some people thought Syria deserved the win
No passion from the @Socceroos that’s alright though as Syria deserved the win, Australia doesn’t deserve to be in Russia #AUSvsSYR

While others thought otherwise
Australia could get a really easy win today. Syria don’t deserve to qualifying for World cup for sure. #AUSvSYR #WCQ

We were hoping too!
Genuinely sorry for Al-Shams – #Syria – for not making it past #Australia. My Syrian colleagues in the office were so hoping. #SYRvAUS

It was anyone’s game
Unfortunately the Syrian team couldn’t get the better of the Socceroos
But at the end of the day, in large thanks to the ageless player Tim Cahill, the Aussies prevailed
