The Entire Dubai Taxi Fleet Is Getting Upgraded And Your Journey Will Never Be The Same Again

Avatar

The Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) are rolling out a fancy new taxi metre system that will make all the difference for your future cab journeys.

The system, while will be standard across the board by 2018 includes some important new features for both drivers and passengers to be aware of:

The updates are as follows

 – An updated Dubai Geographic Addressing System (Makani)…which means no more getting lost

– An automated calculation of Toll Tariff (Salik)

– A new feature allows 90-minutes flexi break for drivers as part of the standard day

– Cabs will now have sensors detecting when passengers board, so if a driver forgets to turn on the metre, the journey can still be tracked

– An end-of-shift feature will also pop-up 45 minutes before the driver finishes his day, which means drivers can’t take passengers at the end of their shifts

The updates will cost a total of AED 69 million

You may have already noticed the improvements

4,850 devices have already been installed and the aim is to have 7,850 cars fitted by December of this year. By June 2018, all cabs (the entire 10,550 fleet) will be standardized with the same equipment.
