A Christian site was discovered in the UAE a few weeks back and has already reopened to the public.

According to several announcements from Abu Dhabi’s Department of Culture and Tourism, the 1400-year-old monastery, once established by 30 monks, now sits on Sir Bani Yas Island.

Photos and videos were quickly spread across the world, with many Christians around the globe commemorating how the Islamic city decided to open it to the public.

Year of Tolerance is alive and well, people.

Several tweets by the Department of Culture and Tourism- Abu Dhabi, photos of HE Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, the Minister of Tolerance, inaugurating the church and monastery site were shared.

The history of the 7th Century monastery is clue to how the monks lived and prayed thousands of years back. This significant existence is evidence of the rich history in the Middle East, and it is perched right on the eastern side of the Sir Bani Yas Island.

According to The National, the site had been occupied for 150 years and was even a drop-off point for traders between the east and west.

This is the FIRST Christian site ever discovered in the UAE

Visitors can visit the site as it has now been reopened to the public.
