The Du Top Boss Says The UAE’s Telecoms Only Has Room For Two

Avatar

The CEO of Du, Osman Sultan, has stated that the UAE market “doesn’t need a third telecom operator at the time” as the current amount of competition in the market leaves the perfect opportunity for innovation.

Du ended rival Etisalat’s domestic monopoly in 2007

It has since invested an estimated at AED 20 billion in network and infrastructure development.

Earlier this year, Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company (EITC) announced that it will now also be offering mobile services under the Virgin Mobile brand.

(Usually, a third mobile network means increased competition and a win for consumers. However EITC is also the parent company of Du.)

But Du has signed an exclusive deal with Virgin Mobile to offer services specially geared towards millennials so better data packages maybe?

Du currently has nine million active mobile subscribers and invests AED 2 billion yearly in upgrades
