A Mexican Architect Claims His Design For The Dubai Frame Was Stolen

Avatar

The Dubai Frame will officially open this year and it will be another glorious addition to our city’s skyline. However, an architect based in Holland, claims the design is his. Mexican Fernando Donis entered a competition as one of 900 architects in 2009 but was never awarded the contract. Now, many years later, he has submitted a lawsuit claiming the design is his.

Donis was a big fan of Dubai, stating in the New York Times: “It’s incredible that a city can just be raised from scratch in such a short time,”  however, he is sure that the design of The Frame is the same as the one he submitted.

His claims haven’t been responded to by the developers, as it would seem that there is a good chance of 900 designs some will look similar, how different can you make a frame look!?

The Frame Is Mine

“It’s shocking, the Frame is mine, and they don’t want to grant that it is mine. The infringement doesn’t just victimize me. They have taken something from all architects — the protection of our ideas.”

Architect Fernando Donis

The Frame is almost complete

It’s a work of art in itself
