The National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority issued an alert asking to ‘prepare for heavy rains’ yesterday.

And it seems that the authorities themselves are drawing emergency plans to tackle the thunderstorm and heavy rain which is in forecast till Monday.

Storm response plan has been set up

The weather is expected to be rough and the authorities, including the Government, police and emergency agencies held a meeting with the officials to set up a response plan for the weekend.

People have been asked to take certain precautions such as staying away from the valleys, not using phones during thunderstorms and being aware of falling trees and blowing sand.

According to Brigadier Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, director of the Traffic Department in Dubai Police, motorists should be alert in low visibility and keep a safe distance between cars when driving in rainy weather.

“Motorists should always keep a safe distance between cars and adjust their speed to the weather conditions. Allow extra time for your journey and check your planned route. It’s also advisable to slow down as rain makes roads slippery.”

To report any minor accidents, drivers can also use the Dubai Police smart app.

The municipality of all the emirates will also make sure that there is no water logging on the streets and that the traffic flows smoothly across the country.
