Three Nigerian Men Killed A Man Using A Broken Broomstick At A Birthday Party

Three men used a broken broomstick to kill a worker at a friend’s birthday party in May of last year.

The Nigerian men, who were around the ages of 24 and 26, were celebrating a birthday in a villa complex whilst drinking in the Hamdan area.

The victim of the incident had been living in the same complex, and had approached the three men asking them to reduce the volume of the music which then lead to a heated argument.

Broken broomsticks and liquor bottles

Once the argument began to get violent one of the defendants jabbed a broken broomstick into the man’s arm and smacked his head using a broken glass bottle causing him to die.

The three men appeared in Dubai Court of First Instance this March, where they were convicted of murder, but they appealed by stating that the incident was an act of self defence.

“There were people drinking alcohol and partying outside. Music was very loud and disturbing and he went out to ask them to reduce the volume and be less noisy…I saw one of them jabbing the broomstick into his arm. I saw another one pounding his head with a liquor bottle. The defendants ran away and my friend collapsed and bled profusely.”

Their appeal was rejected

Overseeing this case, Judge Eisa Al Sharif rejected the appeal and sentenced all three to 10 years in jail and deportation.
