Authorities are making efforts to curb internet costs in the UAE

This week, the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (RTA) announced both Etisalat and du are BANNING the pay-per-use data plan service.

Until now, Etisalat and du both offered this service, it is easy to use all you have to do is dial a certain number and subscribe to pay by the minute offer, this way you get data on demand. The problem with this, is that many people often forget to unsubscribe. So to save people from getting overcharged, TRA has advised Etisalat and du to discontinue their services.
