Girrrrl Power: The UAE Election 2019 Just Elected Seven Emirati Women To The Federal National Council

Following a month of campaigns, twenty new members have now been announced to the Federal National Council (FNC), as a result of the UAE Elections 2019. And SEVEN women were elected on Saturday in what is reportedly the most significant democratic process the UAE has witnessed until now.

Voting began on October 5 in a 13-hour time-span

The Khaleej Times reports that a total of 117, 592 voters out of the 337,738 citizens allowed to vote took part in this year’s elections. That’s a whopping 34.8 percent, that included women, the elderly and young Emiratis.

In Dubai, Hamad Al Rahoumi, Ahmed Abdullah Al Shafan, Maryam Majid Khalifan bin Sunayyah, and Sarah Mohammed Amin Falkinaz won. While in Abu Dhabi, Suhail Al Faali, Khlifan Rashid Al Shamsi, Naema Al Mansouri and Moza Mohammed Al Amri took home the win. Three candidates were also announced from areas like Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah, and TWO from Ajman, Fujairah and Umm al Quwain.
