The UAE has been named the most competitive economy for developing its travel and tourism sector in the Middle East and North Africa, but still has areas to improve, according to a report by the World Economic Forum (WEF).

The United Arab Emirates was ranked number one in the region – for its business environment, human resources and transport infrastructure, among others, and placed second to Finland for its safety and security.

Among 136 nations globally – the top five ranking countries are Spain, France, Germany, Japan and the UK – and the UAE stands at the 29th spot

The report suggested that while the UAE has significantly developed certain segments of cultural tourism, including international conferences and car racing; natural tourism remains an untapped resource for the country.
