Saudi Arabia Has Called For An Emergency Summit Following Rising Tensions In The Region

With tensions rising in the region and ‘acts of sabotage’ against Saudi commercial ships in UAE waters, Saudi has called on leaders of GCC countries to visit Saudi for an emergency meeting.

The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud’s has called on leaders to visit Saudi at the end of May.

Leaders of the Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC) have been invited to Makkah on May 30 to discuss the ‘critical circumstances the region is going through and their consequences on regional peace and stability’, and UAE has publicly welcomed the meeting.

A statement by The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said the call is reflective of Saudi leadership’s and continued determination to establish peace and security in the region and which highlights the leading role Saudi plays in unifying the region.

The call necessitates the importance of a unified stance while allowing the opportunity for countries to continue to establish peace, stability and joint security in the region.
