There Is A Special Guest Coming To This New Al Habtoor City Italian And It’s The Perfect Time To Try It
Il Capo is a fine Italian restaurant. Like many restaurants within established global hotel chains, it isn’t a franchise, but a unique concept created this time by The Westin, Al Habtoor City. There are many things that makes it stand out from other Italians, firstly it’s a New York style Italian, and secondly it’s very elegant, with tall ceilings, tall chairs and sofas, it’s also got a very fancy bar. It’s in a new hotel, not known by many yet, but there are a few reasons why it should be on your radar…
Think fine dining rather that Dominios…
We went a few weeks ago and these are the Memorable dishes that stood out
The Italian staples of pasta and pizza are good here, but there is enough New York excitement in the menu to keep things interesting
This desert done’t look like much on paper, but it works so so well – light Toasted Olive Oil cake with pistachio ice cream and macerated
However, it will be hard for Il Capo to stand out…
… here is a comparison. You know Al Qasr Hotel? When they have a brunch on a Friday, they merge three restaurants together. One of them closed down, as it was seen as part of Al Qasr and didn’t have it’s own identity. Then a year ago, The Hide opened, a really great stand alone restaurant, but it’s taken them a full year to become known as a great place to attend on it’s own. Not just if you are staying in the hotel, or if you are at brunch. It’s the same with Il Capo. They also become part of The Westin, Al Habtoor City’s ‘The City Brunch’ on a Friday, and they will no doubt attract guests from the hotel, but will people get to know it as a place on it’s own? Time will tell.
Hosting events like this one will help. Next week the Italian Food Summit is taking place so there are a lot of famous Italian chefs coming town…
This Wednesday, 9th November, Michelin Starred Chef Giuseppe Stanzione will be at Il Capo
He will be accompanied by an Opera who will perform classic opera from Rigoletto, La Bohème and Madame Butterfly
Which is part of a set menu that will include dishes such as clam with bavette spaghetti and wild seabass, followed by delicious desert for AED 285.
It sits somewhere in between Chiprani and Pulcinella on the price scale of Italians you need to visit in Dubai
To get to The Westin, Al Habtoor City you need to drive past the entrance to the St. Regis and The W Hotel, it’s behind the W Hotel. It’s actually the biggest of the three hotels. Il Capo is on the first floor. In terms of cost. dinner is approximated AED 350 per person. They also have a ‘Bacaro’ evening on every day from 6-8pm for wine and nibbles for AED 120 per person.
For what it’s worth, our verdict is that this place will become very popular.
