McGettigan’s In DWTC Has A New Lads Den And It Ticks All The Boxes

I was looking for some place quiet where I could invite around ten mates to kick start a night out to celebrate my birthday. All I needed was a) somewhere quiet – i.e not a post brunch place on a Friday evening, b) pretty good bar food and drinks, c) a convenient location. 

McGettigan’s has just done up their upstairs venue called The Den. What’s more it even has six pool tables. It seemed ideal. Here are five reasons I’d recommend it.

1. Bar food that is so tasty you will stop talking and drinking to focus on it

This is reason alone to attend. The mini burgers, beef tacos and battered pawns were all excellent. The platters were devoured very quickly. As bar food goes, this place is hard to beat!

2. Quality pool tables for serious ‘bar’ players

It’s hard to get pool tables that serve drinks in Dubai and this took me back to my uni years where we would play winner stays on and gradually get worse the longer the day / evening went on. 

They also have a weekly competition on Wednesday night. You can win prizes up to AED 500 in food and beverage credit. Plus, pints of Carlsberg are AED 30 all night long. It happens from 8pm onwards and entry is free. 

3. Located near Downtown giving you plenty of options 

Being located just off SZR, you’ve got plenty of options for where to go next. So many of the new places that have opened up are based around Downtown now. 

4. Nicely designed den with a good atmosphere

The music was on point for a Friday night. Downstairs had the brunch crowd while we just chilled upstairs. 

5. Decent offers as well

They now do an all day happy hour of AED 29 a pint along with a Thursday offer. 

Enjoy a game of pool, a portion of chicken wings and a pitcher of Carlsberg for AED 149.
