5 Ways To Better Look After Your Health In The UAE

Avatar

We are all guilty of taking our health for granted. It’s not until we start feeling the adverse side effects of an unhealthy lifestyle do we stop to take account of the way we’ve been treating our bodies.

In a bustling and thriving city such as Dubai, with busy and stressful jobs, it can easily slip our minds to take a moment for ourselves and ensure we’re keeping healthy.

Luckily for you, while Dubai may be a busy and stressful city at times, you also have a number of tools at your fingertips to ensure your health remains your top priority, because as they say, your health really is your wealth.

1. Diet

We have all fallen victim to the ease of online ordering and take aways. Busy day at work, no time to cook? No, problem, choose one of the many food delivery services and pick your poison.

Now we’re not saying to never indulge in a greasy burger or cheesy pizza but we have to learn moderation. Having no time or being tired is no excuse.

There are a number of options available for the busy chef. Try one of Dubai’s healthier take aways, or subscribe to a meal delivery service where your healthy meals will be prepared and delivered to your door fresh every day. Save the indulgences for the weekend.

2. Exercise

Now that you’re fuelling your body with something other than fries it’s time to move it. Again it’s very easy to find excuses not to exercise in Dubai. It’s too hot outside, gym membership is too expensive, I don’t have time, I hate running. Not good enough!

Most buildings come equipped with a gym which is free to use and many gyms have special offers on memberships or include personal training. If you don’t like running then there are literally hundreds of different classes in Dubai for you to choose from, swimming, spinning, kickboxing, join a sports team, the list is endless. The weather is finally cooling down now as well so take 30 minutes in the evening when it’s cooler and go for a walk.

We’re not telling you to run a marathon or climb Everest but any step in that direction is one your body will thank you for.

3. Healthy Mind

Keeping a healthy body is all well and good but what about our mind. Mental health is so important for a healthy lifestyle.

Make some time for something you love doing. Whether it’s as simple as a phone call to your mum or reading a book, making time just for you to relax is important.

Stress is an all too familiar concept to a lot of us in Dubai so find something that will help you ease and manage that stress. Maybe try some meditation or yoga, meet with some friends for a coffee or take some time on your own to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. Just try and smile a bit more each day.

4. Give up bad habits

We all have our vices and while some are worse than others we could all do with reducing them. Whether it’s your daily chocolate bar or the pack of cigarettes, it’s time to cut back.

We know they’re bad for us and our health yet we continue to consume these things. Like we said before, for some things it’s about moderation. Limit the sugary treats to the weekend, try and give up smoking, leave the alcohol for a night. You’d be amazed at how much better you feel once you remove all the negatives from your life.

5. Make sure you and your loved ones are looked after

For those times when you do fall ill, it’s important that your medical expenses are not a worry. Being aware of what insurance coverage you have is important so as to avoid stress and financial worry. Many individuals rely on their company’s health insurance to cover all of their medical expenses, however many are shocked to find that they are not covered for everything under these policies. Taking out a personal health insurance policy will ensure that you have optimal coverage for any medical issue that may arise.

In a survey by Cigna Healthguard, only 42% of people surveyed said hospitalisation was covered by their employers insurance. Where does that leave you if you fall ill and require hospital care? They also found that dental care was only covered by 17% of employers. These gaps leave individuals stressed, ill and with large medical bills to pay. A stress which could be relieved by a personal insurance plan such as the ones offered by Cigna Healthguard.

Not only are they tackling the gap in employers insurance to ensure all your medical needs are met but they are taking into account the travel demands of individuals. Their expat health insurance covers the individual while travelling, an expense not covered by many other providers.

With the ability to purchase the plan at three different levels you will be sure to find a plan that suits your travel, budget and lifestyle requirements, allowing you to take control of your health care and well being.
