7 Sensational Sci-Fi Shows You Should Get Into This Summer

Avatar

Nobody wants to be outdoors in this heat, with humidity at an all time high and temperatures at an annual high.

Which makes it perfect time to cosy up indoors, in the comfort of your AC and own home, with a new tv show.

Here are some awesome shows you can get hooked on this summer, some are old classics and others are new obsessions to get stuck into like Dark Matter season three, which launches at 10pm on July 4 on Syfy, exclusively on OSN.

1. The X-Files

The ultimate throwback, it’s high time you rewatched this old favourite – or watch it for the first time, with Mulder and Scully and their thrilling twists and turns, working with extraterrestrials and keeping them out of the public eye.

2. Stargate SG-1

One of the best sci-fi tv shows of all time, Stargate began back in 1994, and is still so good.

See the team transport through galaxies via the Stargate in the original series featuring Colonel Jack, Daniel, Captain Samantha and Teal’c and subsequent spin-offs.

3. Dark Matter

Set in a floating spaceship, the crew of a ship wake up with no memory of who they are, or where they came from… but somehow have super-human skills.

It’s from the writers of Stargate too, so you KNOW it’s going to be a good one.

4. Dr Who

See the Doctor travel through space and time to fight the daleks and other terrifying groups. One of the best-loved shows of all time, there’s plenty to catch up on if you haven’t seen it yet.

There have been 12 Doctors (Whovians) over the duration of the series and it’s worth getting to know all of them in this brilliant series.

5. Battlestar Galactica

Follow the story of the few humans left in the galaxy, as they fight for survival against the evil Cylon robots, in the reimagination of the 1978 hit.

The Battlestar Galactica ship is one of the ships to survive a sneak attack by the Cylons and it’s up to the Galactica crew to help the surviving 50,000 humans find safety.

6. Red Dwarf

Another classic, but one of a different tone, this sci-fi series will have you in fits of laughter with its expertly written jokes and clever twists and turns.

Good quality British humour at its best.

7. Star Trek

Star Trek is arguably the most popular science fiction series ever created.

Go on a whirlwind adventure through space, starting with Captain Kirk played by William Shatner and work your way into the modern day.

With six series, 13 feature films, books, games, comics and everything in between, spanning the last 50 years, it seems as though Star Trek will, ‘live long and prosper’.
