6 Jaw-Dropping SCENES At Dubai Opera's Coming Shows That Will Absolutely Take Your Breath Away
And make you want to book tickets immediately
Whether you're new to the dazzling world of opera, or an aficionado of the performing arts, this September, there are two spectacular shows.
World-renowned operas, Carmen and Mozart's Magic Flute are coming and they will entertain you regardless of your opera knowledge.
AND there are some GREAT deals on tickets, starting from AED350.
As if you needed any more reason to head down... here are some of the best scenes, costumes, and set designs that you'll fawn over for the drama, passion, romance and fantastic tunes.
1. The Habanera song in Carmen
George Bizet's beloved opera has established itself as one of the most well-known operas of all time, and it's largely thanks to Carmen's electrifying presence.
In this scene, it's all about the star of the show - the Habanera is Carmen's entrance number in the opera, and you'll definitely recognise this tune - it was even featured in Pixar's beautiful film, UP!
And it's all performed by the live orchestra, so will give you chills.
2. The March of the Toreadors, Carmen
And if drama is what you came for - DRAMA is what you will get. The March of the Toreadors scene is the infamous bull-fight scene which is matador, Escamillo's aria (solo) tune, which is the peak of the storyline - and will have you absolutely captivated.
3. Carmen's gorge red frock in Act 4 of Carmen
This saucy red dress has frills for days, and given it's on the ultimate femme fatale, the character Carmen, it just makes it all the more eye-catching.
Escamillo is pretty dapper in his matador outfit too!
Costumes for both operas are designed by the talented Cristine Avetisian.
4. The Magic Flute's Queen of the Night
Mozart's famed The Magic Flute is a dark fairytale of an opera, and the sets and costumes match that of the magical storyline. Think Disney movie-meets Shakespeare level drama and colour.
The Magic Flute's bad-ass, Queen of the Night, has some of the BEST costumes and get-ups, and her 'Queen of the Night' aria (solo) will blow you away.
The sets are designed by Paolo Micciche - who's also the director of The Magic Flute.
5. The Magic Flute's Papageno
Papageno basically just wants a girlfriend, and he catches and sells birds, to the Queen of the Night.
His costume is colourful, fun, and kooky, as is his character. He'll be your favourite character immediately.
6. Carmen: Act 3 Scene 1 - the ensemble
Carmen's gorgeous gown is black with golden thread, and matches the drama of the scene.
You'll be blown away with the ensemble and their outfits, the set design - it's all spectacular!
Both operas are on at Dubai Opera.
Carmen is on September 6-8
The Magic Flute is on September 13-15
