The Couple Who Were Detained In Abu Dhabi For Sex Outside Marriage Has Been Released

This week, we reported a couple were detained by police for having sex outside marriage, after a doctor established the woman was pregnant. 

The Ukrainian woman and South African man were detained by January by Abu Dhabi Police and the news made headlines globally this week. 

The couple has now been released without charge

Lynda Culverwell, mother of Mr Emlyn Culverwell spoke to South African media on Friday and the South African Department of International Relations and Co-operation confirmed the news. “All charges against the couple have been dropped and they have been released. The family will arrange when they would return to South Africa,” Clayson Monyela South Africa’s head of Public Diplomacy has been quoted as saying.
