You must have stumbled upon your Google homepage today and realised it’s a little different from the norm.

Just who exactly is this (animated) woman with the FAB outfits, simultaneously changing, with every blink of an eye.

Well, Google is never one to do anything without reason, and today that reason pays tribute to one of the Arab world’s beloved performers.

Google Doodle is paying tribute to what would have been French singer Dalida’s 86th birthday

The glamorous face of all our Google homepage is the Egyptian-born Italian-French singer, Dalida.

Google remembers the life and contributions Dalida has made throughout her life.

Today would have been her 86th birthday.

All of her 14 most iconic looks were featured in the tribute

Dalida was known for her effervescent voice, ability to sing in 7 different languages and for her GLAM concert looks. She truly was a multi-talented icon.

Dalida grew up in Cairo where she was even crowned Miss Egypt in 1954

Originally named Yolanda Cristina Gigliotti, Dalida was born and raised in Cairo’s suburbs where she was even crowned Miss Egypt in 1954.

She later moved to Paris, a year after the win, to follow her dream of being an on-screen actress.

Her tragic death was a result of suicide in May 3, 1987

Although Dalida inspired many, her songs often reflected the trials and tribulations she had undergone. Dalida passed away in 1987 from suicide.

Fans of the singer are absolutely touched by the tribute

“Happy birthday, Dalida, the artist who inspired me the most.”

The Doodle even had people reminiscing to her old songs

“May her soul rest in peace.”
