With under two years to go, construction of the EXPO 2020 site is underway and the venue is well and truly taking shape.
The entire convention and expo will be centred around the ‘Al Wasl’ (meaning ‘connection’ in Arabic) pavilion – (skip to 0.59 to get the first virtual glimpse of the central plaza!) with further districts related to different themes and countries.
Dubai Media Office shared this virtual tour – giving us an insight into what we can expect
The total Expo space is a huge 438-hectare area and will be serviced by a new Metro line
The EXPO begins on October 20, 2020 and runs for six months straight.
The Al Wasl central plaza arrived by boat this summer and construction is almost complete – completion of other districts is still under way
It’s taken 30 days of sailing but finally the pieces of an architectural masterpiece have arrived in #Dubai’s Jebel Ali Port @DP_World. #AlWaslPlaza will host the world in 2020. Are you ready? #Expo2020 pic.twitter.com/jnFXNxLhtJ

The chosen theme for 2020 is ‘Connecting minds. Creating the future’
The theme changes with each Expo, however each theme must be universal and applicable to all humanity. Dubai was awarded the hosting position of Expo 2020 in 2013.
